About The Artist and Her Work

The artist was born in the once glorious mosaic of cultures, previously called Yugoslavia. She became aware of the beauty of cultural pluralism early in life, playing as a child among vestiges of old Roman ruins along the Adriatic Coast and in  pastoral settings at her grandmother's. This awareness of wealth of inner resources of all people is reflected in her work today. It is also a motivating factor in crossing Art with Ideas.

Hilda's technique is a successful blend of the Old Masters and the Contemporary.  Dr.Spannring at her Austrian High School and Dr.Warren Straton at Evangel University (with Pratt Institute background)  influenced her dedication to Art.

Many doors opened up to the professional art world for Hilda. First, as layout editor with a publishing hour, then as a design artist with Hallmark Cards, and as a graphic artist with City Planners in Columbia, South Carolina.

While  teaching  at Tarrant County Community College in Bedford, Texas, a need for the studio arose as painting commitments mounted.  In Georgia, full potential blossomed with numerous  commissions  for  paintings  brought  to  her and work selling well at  Exhibits. Hilda's  paintings  hang  now  in  private  collections  businesses and  public  places in the Southeast,  Mid-and Northwest,  in  Germany  and  Croatia.

Hilda  T. Giles  works  out of her studio in Hewitt, Texas, as she was in Eugene, Oregon, where she was elected President of the Emerald Empire Art Association.

Recent exhibits include:  "Art Attack Gallery":  'Arte Latino',  'Nature's Pallet';  Portland's "The Grotto";  Eugene's "Art and the Vineyard",  "Cultural Forum, University of Oregon", "From  the  Heart  to  the  Heart",  "A  Cross-Cultural  Visit",  etc.

Clients say about  her work that  it  is "Warm", "Unique", "Touching the Heart", "Happy", "... such a variety of paintings, they have a good feeling...",  "have that narrative quality..."
